Botox: It's Still the Best for Remedying Crow's Feet and Frown Lines

Years of facial expressions can take their toll on your skin, forming unattractive lines and folds. Smiling, laughing, scowling, squinting, and frowning result in unwanted wrinkles around your eyes and above and in between your eyebrows.

Some of these wrinkles, or fine lines, are static, meaning that they are always there even when you’re not making a facial expression. Dynamic lines only appear when you make an expression such as a smile. Whether your wrinkles are static, dynamic, or both, they can take away from your appearance.

And wrinkles don’t only affect women and men as they age. These lines can set in earlier in younger people who frequently smile or frown.

There are many over-the-counter products that claim to help prevent or reduce the appearance of these lines. But the most effective remedy for unattractive facial lines around your eyes and forehead is FDA-approved Botox® injections.

What is Botox?

Botox is the brand name of a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The product works by temporarily paralyzing or relaxing the muscles around the treated area so those muscles can’t contract and form expression lines. Botox injections are quick and painless. You only feel a quick needle pinch.

After your Botox treatment, you start to see results within a day or two, but full results are apparent about 10 days after your procedure. Full results mean smoother, younger-looking skin that will last for about three to four months.

Botox is the most commonly performed minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. Last year, over 7 million Botox procedures were performed. Botox was FDA-approved to treat frown lines in 2002 and crow’s feet in 2013. It’s also used to address health issues such as severe underarm perspiration, migraines, and overactive bladders.

How can Botox treat my crow’s feet and frown lines?

Crow’s feet, the lines that fan out around your eyes especially when you smile or squint, and frown lines, the lines that form above and between your eyebrows, are some of the most common facial wrinkles and lines.

While wearing sunglasses, moisturizing daily, and not smoking can help slow the formation of crow’s feet and frown lines, Botox can help significantly reduce the appearance of these wrinkles once they form. By blocking the muscles that cause your forehead to contract when you frown and the muscles that create lines around your eyes when you smile or laugh, Botox can reduce the appearance or eliminate those lines entirely.

If you start early enough with Botox, before the lines set in, you can prevent wrinkles and lines from forming in the first place.

The absence of these prominent wrinkles helps give you a younger, more attractive appearance.  A smooth, line-free face can help boost your self-confidence and enhance your self-esteem.

If you decide Botox is not right for you, the effects of the treatment wear off in a few months, and you can choose not to repeat the procedure.
